Car body repair in Stowmarket

Stowmarket runs on the A14, and a car that spends an hour a day behind container lorries collects a particular kind of damage. Grit strips the leading edge of the bonnet, the front bumper goes matt and speckled, and chips gather round the windscreen surround. Smart Spray Bodywork puts that right for Stowmarket drivers at our Bury St Edmunds workshop, a straight run west along the same road.

What the A14 does to a front end

Stone chips across the bonnet and front bumper, a pitted windscreen surround, sandblasted headlight covers, and a nearside that has taken years of lorry spray. None of it justifies a claim on its own, but together it makes a well kept commuter car look tired from ten feet away.

We are on the road you already use, so a repair is a diversion rather than a day off work. Send a few photos to 07939 755264 on WhatsApp for a free, no obligation quote and a realistic timeframe, then we agree a drop off around your commute.

What decides the cost of the common Stowmarket jobs

Paint correction is priced on the state of the paint rather than the size of the car: how heavily the lacquer is swirled, and how much chipping has gone through to primer. Bumper work turns on whether the scuff can be worked with the bumper on the car or the whole face has to come off and go through the booth. Metallic and pearl colours cost more because they have to be faded into the neighbouring panels. The quote is free and honest, and if a polish will do the job we will tell you.

Sprayed in a proper booth

Everything we spray goes through our own booth at the workshop, where temperature, airflow and moisture are controlled, which allows us to achieve quality results.

Machine polishing works within the clear coat, which is only about thirty to fifty microns thick, so swirls, wash marks and light scratches come out beautifully. A chip that has gone through to primer will not polish out, because there is nothing left to level. On a chipped A14 bonnet the honest answer is usually a mix of both.

What we see most on Stowmarket cars

Bonnets and front bumpers chipped down to the primer from years of motorway running, usually worse on the offside.

Swirl marks and wash marks from regular hand car washes, which respond very well to a proper machine polish.

Kerbed alloys and scuffed bumpers picked up around Stowupland, Combs and the town centre car parks.
