Car body repair in Brandon, Suffolk

Brandon sits on the Norfolk border with Thetford Forest on three sides, and driving around it is nothing like driving in town. The A1065 runs straight through the forest, the B1106 cuts down through Elveden, and the lanes between them are narrow, unlit and full of wildlife. Smart Spray Bodywork repairs the results at our Bury St Edmunds workshop, with 22 years in the trade behind the work. Send photos to 07939 755264 on WhatsApp for a free, no obligation quote.

Hitting a deer is more common than people think

Thetford Forest is deer country and the roads through it carry that risk all year, as anyone who drives them at dawn or after dark knows. What reaches us afterwards is usually the same set of parts: a bumper, a bonnet, a wing, and frequently a headlight or grille behind them.

What to do at the roadside

Do not swerve hard to avoid an animal, because losing control is worse than the impact. Pull up somewhere safe, put the hazards on, and call the police if an animal is injured or the road is blocked. Photograph the damage and the location, because it makes any claim far easier later.

Coming down from Brandon

Take the A1065 south out of Brandon, through the forest to the Fiveways roundabout at Barton Mills, then the A11 towards Red Lodge. The B1106 through Elveden works too. Our Bury St Edmunds workshop is just off that stretch of the A11, short of the town centre, roughly twenty minutes on a clear run. The full address is on our contact page, or call 07939 755264.

Damage the forest roads produce

Stone chips, verge scrapes and bumper damage

The three jobs Brandon sends us most

Front end damage from an animal strike is the big one, and it usually means a bumper, a bonnet and often a wing, which puts it in claim territory. Then there are verge scrapes, where a passing place or a soft edge takes the paint off a sill or a nearside wing. Third is stone chipping across bonnets and bumpers from loose forest grit. What a repair takes comes down to how deep the damage goes, whether the part has to come off the car, and whether your colour needs blending into the next panel. Smaller repairs often come in below a typical excess, and you will always get an honest opinion on which route makes sense.

What comes in from the forest roads

Smashed front ends from deer strikes on the A1065 and the unlit lanes around Santon Downham and Weeting.

Scraped sills and wings from pulling into soft verges on the single track roads towards Hockwold cum Wilton.

Bonnets and bumpers peppered with stone chips from loose grit thrown up on the forest and Elveden routes.
